Cruise ships change the rugs in the elevators so you can remember what day it is. It’s amazing how handy this is if you are the type who easily looses touch with reality.
I think this little bit of help starting each day is brilliant. It is so much more helpful than underpants with the days of the week sewn in. Remember those? I never did get why it was important to wear Sunday on Sunday or Tuesday on Tuesday unless you were so unstuck in time that you would forget to change them daily without a visual aid. It’s so much easier just to look down at your feet than to grope your skivvies in order to know whether it is market day or take the kids to ballet day.
What cruise ships need to get better at is direction signage. It’s been my observation that if you can’t find your way to the pointy end of the ship on Day One, you can’t on Day Twelve either. This is why it is common for duffers to gather in the elevator alcoves, knocking into each other like directionally challenged zombies.
Imagine signs like This Way to the Spa or This Way to the View or This Way to the Food. Now that’s heaven on earth.
