It is hard to believe that Sylvester Stallone, of Rocky and Rambo fame, might offer some true insight into the dilema you face….but here goes….. Here is Stallone’s perspective on rejection, ” I take rejection as somone blowing a bugel in my ear to wake me up and get me going, rather than a signal of retreat.”

Hang in there……nose to the grindstone….keep writing and something good will happen!

Do NOT self-publish those books or you’ll answer to me, Missy. Take it from someone who knows how hard it is to break into publishing. Unless you sell tons of self published books and that doesn’t happen but to the rare few, then you’re setting yourself back even farther. Keep on writing book 3 while waiting. A lot of writers never sell their first, second, or third book. It’s a waiting/submitting game. All the writer can control is the writing. And you are a really good writer. You have a great rejection letter from a top agent to prove it.

Dude, if you are even getting responses, that is a good sign. I have gotten a few total ignores of pitches for magazine stories. The market is flooded, but people still want to read good words. If it’s anything like the things you writer here, I bet the books are great.

.303 Bookworm: The first book is the genre they call “literary” which I really hate. So I refer to it as “contemporary” or “mainstream.” The second is psycological drama or a psychological thriller. I’m not wild about using that “thriller” word because I envision Superwoman, and none of my characters can conquer the world. But those are the buzz words.
Right now, Sis is correct. Vampire is beginning to fade a bit, but any paranormal has the best chance right now. The darker the better. At least that’s how it seems to me.

Self publishing might not be that bad an idea. James Redfield self published “The Celestine Prophecy” before a major publisher took it on. I think it was number one on the New York Times list for six months. I’d like to read your books, and I’ll buy them as soon as they hit the shelves.

Maybe you should self publish the first chapter here, get your niece to redirect a little of her traffic over and then you could show the number of hits to illustrate interest.

Become a beauty pageant runner-up, then mayor of a small town, then governor and running mate of a presidential candidate who wants to use you as the “hail mary” pass. Lose, blame it on everyone else and then quit being governor with more than a year remaining in your term. Hire a hack, write a memoir to alter history and use the stinking media interest in dead skunks by the side of the road to flog it. Make millions from people with warped values and no apparent ability to discern hucksterism and vacuous chatter…

that seems to work.
