Chip Shots 8

In the seventies, I wrote a nonfiction book. I spent virtually every waking hour in a library doing research, taking long hand notes. I typed the text on copy sets, which were two 8 1/2 x 11 sheets with a piece of carbon paper in the middle that you tossed when the page was done. Today I needed to know how much a fully loaded logging truck weighs and the lyrics to Barney Google. It took about eight minutes to do the research and another two to insert these intriguing items into my document (which I carry around everywhere on a thumbdrive that I could hide in a lipstick tube, if in fact I had a lipstick tube). As a writer of some truly brilliant works in my time, I’d like to say: Wow.

They’ve moved me to a new office and I don’t like it at all. Different pigeons come to the windows.

    Ditto, Donna.
But also. . . what the HECK are you writing that links the weight of a logging truck with Barney Google and his goo-goo-googly-eyes???

Other Donna: You may have identified one of the reasons that I can’t seem to find an agent. Only they aren’t polite enough to say HECK. Linda

[an unmentioned tear] When my wife and I began family history, pre-computer, she had to retype the family lists every month to add in the new discoveries. Now she just adds them to a file on the computer. So quick! And there are now over 200,000 names on that list. Computers and the intertubes have a lot to answer for.
