Til we meet again

I’m having WordPress woes, the symptoms of which are hysteria, sniveling out of context, and a desire to pick fights. To begin, WordPress no longer emails notifications of new posts, and I know how you all cherish these pearls of wisdom. I can’t get it fixed. I’ve had no luck with the WordPress forum either. So this is my last post until I find a solution, which may be a blog location elsewhere.

If you have any suggestions or recommendations for me, please comment. Or send an email to fromthebacknine@gmail.com. When I’ve returned to the Back Nine, I’ll see if niece Linda will let you know. In the meantime, I’ll be lurking around your sites. Love to all. Well, except a few of you, and you know who you are.

Well, I don’t have a blog so I don’t know how to fix your problem. I sure am gonna miss you though.

Since I REALLY don’t think you should stop writing because of some annoying broken plugin (that I CAN’T FIX WAHHH), can anyone who’s reading this please raise your hand if 1) you already have fromthebacknine.com added to an RSS reader, or 2) you’d come back and check for updates even if you didn’t get a handy email telling you to do so?

  3. Comment by Quiana | 06/26/08 at 12:25 pm

    Hand raised!
I read via Google Reader and it is working out fine for me.

I responded to your comment on my blog, but in case you don’t obsessive track my comments (weird) I suggested that you guest blog on other people’s blogs OR just whip up a little blogger account until some smarty pants can help you. A painless procedure. Promise!

    PS- Sorry about the rug.

I always come back and check even though I added myself to receive updates. I’ve never once received updates by email for the site, but I love reading, so I come back and check. I’m pretty sure you should NOT stop writing because you are one of only 6 blogs that I read…I NEED you Ms. Lady! :)

Both hands up! I look you up daily.

  6. Comment by Steve | 06/27/08 at 1:17 pm

    Yes… I know.

  7. Comment by Wendryn | 06/27/08 at 3:19 pm

Please don’t stop writing! The feed reader works, so even if you don’t send out notifications people could find you that way. I love your writing!

  8. Comment by Jenn Perryman | 06/27/08 at 4:16 pm

I check you daily, don’t even use a feed service. But I’ll miss the hell out of your writing if you stop.

  9. Comment by Jennifer | 06/27/08 at 4:34 pm

WHAT is this BullSh*t??? Is this really the only reason you’re going to stop writing – because the RSS feed won’t work? Who the eff cares about that?!?!?

*yikes, apparently I was yelling just then. Sorry about that.*

(And to answer Sundry’s question, yes I have RSS feeds set up from this and a few other blogs but I never pay attention to them anyway; I have BackNine listed third on my “Blogs” bookmarks list – with Sundry as #1 and BetterNow as #2, FYI – and I just check them all when I have time. Even if there’s not a new post up when I check back, maybe there are new comments to read, so it’s worth checking back anyway.)

Linda you’ve got to keep writing – if for no other reason than to report on when you’re going to be in B’Ham for that Toyota Barbecue-Grill Home-Depot event. I’m going to buy you an iced latte (from the most fantastic coffeehouse in Bellingham that you’ll never be able to find without me), remember??

Now if you really want to just take a break from writing because it’s taking too much of your time, or because you don’t like the writing, or because it feels like too much an obligation, well I can understand that. But don’t quit just due to a software plugin issue. Geez, if people stopped their lives due to software bugs, we’d all be stuck in neutral 90% of the time.

Ok, Ok, I will not dropkick the entire system into Puget Sound. I will be up and running again soon, just probably on Blogger. With a new looking site but same old attitude. See you shortly, my dears. And, Jennifer, I will hold you to that latte.

Don’t be silly. Just because it doesn’t deliver the new post directly to people’s doors, you’re STOPPING and MOVING? Most bloggers don’t even HAVE an “email the new posts” option AT ALL. (I don’t think Blogger has it. Or at least, I blog on Blogger and would LIKE to have an “email the new posts” option but have been unable to find one.) I have, like, 150 blogs in an RSS reader, and only get 2 of them emailed to me.

Stop this nonsense! Sundry says so, and I join in!

  12. Comment by Swistle | 06/27/08 at 6:02 pm

Okay, FINE, so now I’m doing some MORE RESEARCH and am finding that Blogger DOES apparently allow an email-new-posts thingie. Although I am about ready to trade in one of my children to get a MAGICAL BEING to handle it for me, because I can’t understand WORD ONE of the instructions for doing it.

  13. Comment by Brid | 06/27/08 at 7:29 pm

bloglines does its job notifying me of your new posts; (the suckiness of my commenting is entirely my own fault).

  14. Comment by Trina | 06/27/08 at 7:31 pm

PS Your posts come across my google reader just fine. :)

  15. Comment by Jessica | 06/28/08 at 8:31 am

I look forward to hearing more from you, be it here or at a new site. I use bloglines, but there are certain blogs like Sundry that I go to the site to read (and I end up clicking through there to here, even though I am perfectly capable of typing “fromthebacknine.com”).

  16. Comment by willikat | 06/28/08 at 9:31 am

sheer craziness. do not take a break just because of the notification thing. people seei t in their feed reader or they stop by anyway. don’t stop writing!look for an alternative in the mean time if you hate wordpress. otherwise we will shrivel up and die.

  17. Comment by Kelsey | 06/28/08 at 12:20 pm

I also get your posts just fine through google reader. Please, please, please don’t stop. The funny! The quality writing! The pictures! I would miss them all.

  18. Comment by TinaNZ | 06/29/08 at 12:55 am

Haven’t had a notification email since I tried to change the address it mailed to, about a year ago – but I still check here every two or three days. Your writing is worth coming back for.

  19. Comment by Moose | 06/29/08 at 10:22 pm

Don’t quit! NO QUITTERS HERE! (Says the girl who has quit so many activities, the word is tattooed across her forehead.) I wish I was a wordpress genius and could wiggle my fingers in your general direction to make the problem go away, but I’m not. Sadly, my ‘wiggle the fingers’ trick rarely fixes anything.

I bet most people read you via google reader or good ol’ fashioned url typing. In other words: KEEP WRITING. AND DO SO IN ALL CAPS. IT MAKES PEOPLE PAY ATTENTION. :)

  20. Comment by ZestyJenny | 06/30/08 at 10:31 am

I already just pop in periodically and catch up here, so nothing changes for me! Don’t go away! You are a great writer and I will miss you terribly if you stop blogging.

  21. Comment by Donna | 07/01/08 at 1:40 am

Dude, you can’t stop writing because of blog issues, because obviously, we will all come here and check anyway.
In my bookmarks, I have probably 30 blogs, and I go through them about once a week. (It is my blog fix and yes, my name is Donna, and I am a blog whore.)
I have them even grouped by interest. Your blog is right up there in the top general blogs, then I have medical, and ranty blogs.
If you ever get it fixed, it’s cool, if not, we will all still be here, hitting our refresh keys like little crack monkeys.

  22. Comment by Back Nine | 07/01/08 at 9:45 am

You guys are so understanding! I’ll be back shortly; I’m taking a few days off then will post here until I come up with a better solution. Love to all. Linda

    [tapping foot impatiently]
[twiddling thumbs] Hey, I can do this backwards AND forwards!

  24. Comment by michaelm | 07/02/08 at 5:27 pm

    No luck on the forums?
If I can help in any technical way, please let me know.
    I’d love to help.
