I'm after writing and editing work. At this point i need to pay the bills, so I'm not hugely picky if that's corporate communications, custom publications, or, you know, a column in the New Yorker. I have five years of really solid experience, if I do say so myself. I'm reliable, fast, and willing to work my ass off so that i can be independent. It's really what I want, so the layoff thing was probably a blessing in disguise, although having it happen 60 days before my wedding--a little disappointing. And you are SO RIGHT about the legal pads!!!

You go, Linda!! (And BTW Johnny boy will be 72, not 70, come election day!)

I read a related comment over at Wonkette that I still chuckle at:
I can see it now, the first McCain White House state dinner will feature "creamed corn" on the menu with a Metamucil sorbet to end the evening.

I love, love, love this post. And Lady knows I'm an oldster too. It's not so much about not being wise, it's about not being quick. And that is very difficult to tell from the long, slow decline into dementia. Remember? We've already been there with one old dude prez. Ginger

I vowed to stay out of American politics - and I have kept my vow (mostly) so I shouldn't be commenting here. But with the aging population throughout the Western World, it is quite possible that the Geriatrics for Jesus vote will one day give us a 100 year old as leader of the free world (as oipposed to a 100 year old leader of China)

My friends, thanks for your comments. And Emily ... no, the title didn't refer back to the Beatles. Although after two nights of Beatlemania on American Idol, I should remember everything about them. I guess what the APA had to say about memory loss (see above) must be true.

Is it another characteristic of older age that you begin every sentence with the phrase, "My Friends?"

Heh - I hadn't even really thought about his age, but you are right. So now, instead of thinking of him as "that jackass", he will be "that OLD jackass"

Here, here - love the thoughts from The Back Nine.

Please keep your fingers away from the red button!

Emily - thanks for giving a look at what happened to the red cap - a person would think he at least had enough sense to hold onto his hat.
